A Cantonese in Zhengzhou

        Many years later, an old man with a head of white hair recalls the past when a young man with inspiration and enthusiasm came to Zhengzhou. The old man is my grandfather. Back in 1953, Chinese people had just experienced civil war and the new China had been established for four years; moreover, every place in the country needed to rebuilt. At that time, the government of China proclaimed the First Five Year Plan because the country needed a lot of technicians, workers and service industry personnel to support the development of central and western regions. My grandfather took a train from Guangzhou to Zhengzhou to respond to the country's call. My grandfather took root in Zhengzhou, and he not only became a strong and accountable man, but also his spirit inspires me to become an accountable and diligent man.



        Strong willpower and accountability are two essential qualities for an adult. In 1905, my grandfather was full of passion. He followed a team of about twenty people and ended up in Zhengzhou. At the beginning, he was a receptionist in a service company. However, he worked very diligently. Once, a visitor forgot to bring his documents that he need in a hurry, and he was in such a hurry that he left documents in his factory which was very far from my grandfather's company. My grandfather volunteered to run to get his documents, and come back. There is a Chinese proverb "Bitter pills may have wholesome effects." My grandfather got a promotion to be a manager due to his strength and accountability, and his work transferred to the first Cantonese restaurant in Zhengzhou. In addition, he devoted his youth for the development of Zhengzhou.



        Moreover, when a grain of sand from age drifts down on a common person's shoulder, it will become a mountain. My grandfather's choice decided his life. While my grandfather worked in the first Cantonese restaurant in Zhengzhou, his life seemed ready yo access the next phrase. In that special period, the government used to arrange people's lives, including love and marriage. So, they recommended a woman who would be my grandmother to my grandfather. My grandfather fell in the love when he saw the woman the first time, yet my grandmother didn't like him. She had a boyfriend and they loved each other. However, my great grandmother considered that my grandfather's job might would have a better future; she made my grandmother to leave her boyfriend. In addition, my grandmother's boyfriend quit their love due to my grandfather solved it with a little violence. Finally, they married; Bi family had taken root in Zhengzhou, and it grew to become a tree. After many years, my father went another nation further than my grandfather's. That is another story.



        I have tried my best to inherit my grandfather's good character, and his accountable and diligent character has affected me in meaningful way. I never forget that my grandfather took care of me in my childhood. When I was in an elementary school, he would pick me up from school. After we went home, he always would make some delicious dishes. Before I went to bed, he always used to wash my feet. These memories about him let me know that he is a responsible and industrious man. I hoped that I could inherit his spiritual legacy in someday.



        My grandfather is an accountably and diligent man. Although his work was ordinary, he selflessly contributed his youth for the development of Zhengzhou. The government helped him to build his life, but they can't negated his struggle. He created my family through hard work. Moreover, I will never forget the memory of living with him, and I have acquired an important legacy from him. In the end, I always believe that the wind can blow a paper without use, but it can't blow a butterfly.
