My Name - Felipe

Name Journey

I have not always known the history or story behind my name. I haven’t ever asked my parents. When I lived in Venezuela, I had two last names, one was my mother’s, the other was my father’s. The name had two characters, which was required by the law. Everyone’s name had to both mother and father’s last name. When I was ten years old, I went back to China. I used my Chinese name, due to using foreign names is unusual in China. In addition, everyone only has one last name. Although I had two last names, I only used my father’s last name during the time in China. Before we moved to the United States, my parents got divorced, so I only use my father’s last name. I don’t plan to change my name in the future.

  1. Nice experience! I know you are Chinese, but I was confused about your name, Felipe. After reading this, I finally know the reason.

  2. This is really interesting. I didn’t know how moving between countries could change a person’s name like this.
